    Also the lack of real education, makes stylists treat anyone who is teaching anything like God! Everybody out is there is better, they are teaching the Holy Grail of extensions, they must be adored and put in an altar. Nothing is new! Everything is copied somehow, no one is teaching the holy grail of anything. As you said, be curious, learn, a tweak things to serve your needs and stop adoring people like gods.

    the thing about Jayne, I feel was a little bit of a dig 'look at this outrageous price point, yet she does it for free' i think they are trying to minimize what we actually provide. Like a haircut, since it can be given for free, shouldnt cost this much. it sounds like that anyway.

    @brittseva how would you respond to clients taking photos of products your trying to sell. Both when your looking and "not". I get very awkward like I just walked in on them going to the bathroom😅 help!

      Great question! Whenever a client chooses to take a photo of a product instead of saying "I'll take that today! Thanks" and buying it from you, it's an indicator that your sales technique is either feeling too salesy, isn't creating desire or isn't clear enough. Modern retail sales techniques create so much FOMO that the client can't imagine leaving your salon without the product right this second. So generally it means your current technique just isn't creating enough desire or urgency.

    For anyone listening or watching, I highly encourage you to look into the DISC personality profile! It's another dialect in what I call this psychological language. Shorthand for helping you choose who you want in your business personality-wise. It's easy to learn, and there's a lot to discover!

    Salon owners need to remain business owners. You can't back down on your pricing. - Build more value in your services, so you can charge more. The quality of customer service is HUGE for being a premium company. - Real value > perceived value > price > cost. - Believe in what you provide, and people will too. I REFUSE to participate in a failing or challenging economy. You create your economy with your clients. The beauty undustry needs to take itself seriously. If the venue doesn't care, the clientele won't either. No matter the economy, *someone* is making the money. Double down on your sales and marketing when the storm hits. Invest more, not less.

    Thank you for this interesting discussion about online booking. The challenge I am facing (I’m a commissioned stylist) is, all of our services are a la carte. So, a new client will online book a color, but doesn’t understand that processing time has to be left blank and the finishing service must be booked after that. Plus they book at the most random times and then I am left with 15 minute holes all over my book! How can this be resolved?

    I am so glad I found you before the start of 2024! I'm a small scale booth renter. I've been a hairstylist for 12 years. I just started booth renting three yrs ago. I find myself still trying to find my footing while recovering from commission stylist burnout in a post pendemic consumer world. I really appreciate your content!

    This was very affirming for how my 2023 went (I don’t hear that podcast but your brief recap was spot on) and what you’re styling about 2024 I see it already and I agree . I am Scared , I am a solo stylist so I felt that when you mentioned people went back to salons, but I am ready for the 2024 growth I was hoping to have had this year . I did gain clients and had an increase in income - I must keep moving forward ❤

    I am seeing the great divide. It is scary. Last year I saw a 15% increase in earnings. So far this year I’m down about 19%. Yet my retention is still in the 90% range. But I’m not seeing the new clients.

    When we are talking about customers waiting to get on with a stylist and time it takes, I do the rolling schedule, where books open on the 1st for scheduling an appointment for the following month. Once all appointments are full for the month, books are closed again. I typically fill in very fast when books open Anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour on some months. Is this still something you recommend for scheduling. I get phone calls from people wanting to schedule an appointment, but now they have to wait until the 1st of the month. Im very worried for 2024.

    I went to cosmo school starting December 2020. A large part of my education was digital and I’m very much a consumer of free RUclips education when available. I’m absolutely hesitant when it comes to a lot of these new digital educators because I don’t want to waste my time on education that has less than RUclips quality. I hope new educators really focus on quality over quantity because that’s what I’ll be looking for anytime I need to brush up my skills. Thanks for another great episode Britt! 🫶🏽 Happy new year 🎉

      Great question! If your Google business profile is effectively driving clients to your chair, then adding in ads might be a beneficial to you! If you haven't optimized your business profile yet or you're still looking to build up reviews, focus on that first!

    When referencing towards the demand on time. You mention the time it takes to book an appointment or the time they are willing to wait. But does the time it takes to perform a service fall into that category? Some of my services are 2, 3 or 4 hours long. I always have self doubt I'm not quick enough but my quality is there.

      Great question! Length of service has to do with a couple of things; 1. Service structure (a la carte, session based, etc) and 2. Perceived value. Speed counts of course for something, but sometimes speed isn’t what’s valued. Everything is relative to the experience offered and expected. But to answer your question, no speed of service execution wasn’t what this Deloitte survey was assessing.
